Dr. Murlidhar Kishinchand Jetley

Dr. Murlidhar Kishinchand Jetley was born on 7 November 1930 in Hyderabad, Sind [Pakistan]. A highly accomplished scholar, he earned M.A. degrees in Hindi, Sanskrit, and Linguistics, and a Ph.D. in Linguistics. He served at the University of Delhi and retired as Head of the Sindhi Section in the Department of Modern Indian Languages, residing in Delhi thereafter.

An eminent authority on the Sindhi language, Dr. Jetley made substantial contributions to Sindhi literature through research and literary papers presented at international seminars in Sukkur and Karachi. He authored several important books on the history and phonology of Sindhi and held key positions with leading literary bodies, including the Sahitya Akademi, K.K. Birla Foundation, Bharatiya Jnanpith, and Sindhi Academy, besides serving on advisory committees of the Government of India.
